Alan Main
Member of the Bayer HealthCare Executive Committee and Head of the Medical Care Division
Alan Main has been a member of the Bayer HealthCare Executive Committee and Head of Bayer HealthCare’s Medical Care Division since July 1, 2010. This Division houses the Radiology & Interventional and Diabetes Care businesses.
Main was born in 1963 in Aberdeen, Scotland. He studied International Marketing at Thames Polytechnic where he earned a BA (with honors). He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketers in the United Kingdom.
Alan Main has more than 25 years of experience in the OTC industry, in which he has held various positions in marketing and management. Main entered the consumer care business when he worked for Stafford-Miller (now GSK) and Merrel-Dow (now Sanofi-Aventis). In 1992 Main continued his marketing career with Roche Consumer Health in the United Kingdom, where he held various positions of increasing responsibility in the UK and abroad, including South Africa and Hong Kong. As Head of the Region International (comprising Asia/Pacific, Russia, Turkey, the Middle East and Africa), he was a member of the Roche Consumer Health Leadership Team.
Following the successful acquisition of Roche’s Consumer Health business by Bayer, Main transferred to Bayer HealthCare’s Consumer Care Division in 2005 where, as Head of the Region Asia/Pacific, he was responsible for Commercial Operations and for developing important growth markets in the Far East. In February 2008, Alan Main was appointed Head of the Region Europe (comprising the countries in Western and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa) of the Consumer Care Division headquartered in Basle. Main is currently a board member and Vice President of the European Self-Care Industry Association (AESGP / Association Européenne des Spécialités Pharmaceutiques Grand Public).
As Head of the Medical Care Division, Main will receive a seat on the board of AdvaMed (Advanced Medical Technology Association), a global trade association representing leading medical technology manufacturers.
